A Top-of-Mind Option Among Private Schools in Cary, NC

When families begin looking at private schools in Cary, NC, they are often searching for a place that combines rigor with warmth: a school that expects excellence but never loses sight of the child behind the report card, where faith is not tucked into a single hour but lives in the daily life of the classroom.

That is the school we work to be every day. A few specifics distinguish Resurrection Lutheran among Cary's private school options. We are a Christ-centered school with deep roots in the Lutheran tradition that welcomes families from across the Christian community, not only Lutheran households. We are a continuous PK-8 program, which means families make their private school decision once and stay through the end of middle school rather than searching again at ages ten or eleven. And we are small by design, with student-to-teacher ratios that allow teachers to know each child individually.

Resurrection Lutheran is dually accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Association and by Cognia, and our curriculum uses North Carolina State Standards as a baseline while building in national standards, enrichment, and a Biblical worldview across every subject. The result is a program that is academically strong, spiritually grounded, and genuinely joyful.

Our Mission and Who We Serve

Resurrection Lutheran School is a mission of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Our commitment is simple: to provide a Lutheran educational experience that is Christ-centered and academically focused for children in junior kindergarten through eighth grade. Our community draws from many local neighborhoods, including:

  • Regency
  • Heatherstone
  • Woodcreek
  • Twin Lakes
  • Wimbledon
  • Lochmere, MacGregor Downs, Preston, Amberly, and Cary Park
  • Many other communities across Wake County

Many of our families share carpools, and our before and after school care program helps working parents manage the school day on both ends.

Our Programs at a Glance

Our program is designed as one connected PK-8 learning path, so families make their enrollment decision once and stay through middle school. Each grade level builds on the last so that students develop strong habits, a love of learning, and a living faith over time.

Preschool and Junior Kindergarten

Resurrection Lutheran Preschool offers partial-day classes for children ages two to five, including transitional kindergarten. For families ready for a longer day, our full-day Junior Kindergarten welcomes children who will be four years old by August 31 and follows our standard hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In Junior Kindergarten, our focus is to instill a positive attitude toward learning and to create a foundation for a lifelong love of education. Weekly unit themes rooted in a Biblical worldview introduce our youngest students to diverse subjects and to a way of seeing the world through faith. More information is available on our preschool program page.

Elementary School (JK-5)

Our elementary program is grounded in a belief that a child's first school experience matters. Students focus on independence, perseverance, communication, organization, and exploration while developing foundational academic skills.

Kindergarten is supported by a full-time teacher and teaching assistant, giving our youngest elementary students two caring adults in the room. The fruit of the Spirit serves as a model for Christian life. Specialists in Music, PE, Art, Library, and Technology support classroom teachers, with Spanish added in fourth and fifth grades. Teachers coordinate daily so that lessons are reinforced in multiple ways throughout the school day.

Middle School (6-8)

Our middle school program focuses on collaboration, critical thinking, experiential learning, mastery learning, writing, integration, leadership, and community service. The goal is a rigorous core curriculum in the Christian tradition that emphasizes the holistic development of each student. Students in our middle school grades are prepared for honors-level coursework in high school and for lives that reflect purpose, service, and faith.

Faith-Based Education in Daily Practice

Faith-based education at Resurrection Lutheran is not about disconnecting from real academic work. It is about giving students a framework for understanding their studies and their lives. In practice, that looks like specific, daily rhythms. Students begin the day with prayer. Chapel brings the whole school together each week for worship, music, and Scripture. Teachers teach from a Biblical worldview, weaving faith into literature discussions, science units, and history lessons rather than confining it to a single class. Classroom culture is shaped by grace, and character lessons are anchored in Scripture and the fruit of the Spirit.

Enrichment: STEM, Fine Arts, and Service

A strong private Christian school should stretch students across many dimensions, and enrichment is built into the week here rather than treated as an afterthought. Our STEM programming gives students hands-on experiences in coding, engineering, and scientific inquiry that grow with them from early elementary through middle school, framed as expressions of God-given curiosity rather than a separate secular pursuit. Our fine arts program nurtures creativity through music, visual art, and performance, helping students find and develop voices they might not know they had. Through our community service opportunities, students learn early that their gifts are meant to be shared. Together, these experiences help form confident, curious, and kind students.

A School That Feels Like Family

Parents often tell us the first thing they notice on a tour is a warmth that is hard to describe but easy to recognize. Small classes make it possible for every student to be known. Teachers greet families warmly, students from different grades interact in the hallways, and parents know one another by name. Some everyday markers of our community:

  • A welcoming admissions office that treats every visit as important
  • Classrooms where student work is celebrated and effort is encouraged
  • Chapel services that invite reflection and worship
  • Active parent involvement opportunities throughout the year
